Recently I've been exploring more of the Zhongshan area in Taipei, and have found many nice cafes to work from around there. Nichi Nichi is definitely a good option if you're looking for a relaxing and quiet place to work in the afternoon, or even late into the night since they stay open until 10pm. The style is minimal and simple, but there are some nice personal touches, like the colorful hanging lamps and decorations on the walls. The soft piano/jazz background music also helps set the mood.
There's good wifi and power outlets - but be sure to arrive early if you need to charge since only some seats have access to power. The menu selection is also quite small, but the options are good. One drawback for me is that the only tea on the menu is non-caffeine, but anyways, the mint tea was very good. Be sure to try the cakes as well, the banana cake was great!
If you're only looking for a great cafe to work from then this is the place. The menu is basic and the interior is not very special. But, the WiFi is fast, there is power everywhere, the seats are comfortable, and it's never crowded. It can get a little noisy when people come in for business meetings, but other than that it's usually pretty quiet. I especially like the seats near the back under the skylight. Tip, the restrooms are located on the 2nd floor.
A very popular cafe for working and having meetings. Nice interior and soft jazz background music, which gives the place a good vibe. There are several seating options, including a small outdoor seating area. Personally I like the bar seats, although it's not very comfortable to sit there for a long time. Decent WiFi and plenty of power outlets. The menu has many options for coffee but unfortunately the tea selection is quite small. One tip is to arrive early to get a good seat, since it can get quite busy even on a weekday.
While spending some time in Taichung I found this cafe. On a weekday morning, the first floor was quite busy with people having brunch. However, if you go upstairs you'll find a large room, with lots of natural light, suitable for working. There's even a terrace if you feel like working outside. The menu is large, with lots of food and drink options. I'm always happy when I can find a good milk tea without sugar. Overall I like the vibe of this cafe, but there is room for improvements. I wish the seats were more comfortable, there were more power outlets, and better WiFi.
A great hostel in Taichung that features a large co-working space area in the lobby. If you're planning to take a trip to Taichung then this is definitely a great place to stay. Even though there are many good working cafes nearby (see my other Taichung posts!), it's also nice to spend some time working at the hostel in the morning or evening. The facilities feel modern and very clean, there's fast WiFi throughout the hostel, and there's even a nice rooftop to enjoy if the weather is good.
It seems most cafes focus on coffee, however, this place is perfect for someone who appreciates tea. The selection is great, with many types of black, green, and herbal/fruit tea. Each tea comes with a detailed description, so you can easily spend some time deciding what you want to try. The tea set is proper and even comes with a tea brewing timer so you can brew your perfect cup. The staff will also come around offering to refill your tea with more hot water as needed.
The interior is feels spacious and bright, with high ceilings and large windows across two floors. The first floor is great for eating and socializing. However, if you prefer a quiet spot to yourself then you can go upstairs and sit by the large windows and enjoy the atmosphere.
For working, the background music was to my taste (a mix of lounge and electronic). The WiFi is definitely slow, but it was stable and worked during my entire stay. Also, most tables don't have access to power outlets, but at least the large work table does. It was quite noisy around lunch time, but the rest of the afternoon was very pleasant.
Not only is this a very work-friendly place, but the food is also fantastic, with many great choices and large portions. If you're looking for a place where you can sit and work all day without going somewhere else to get food, then this is definitely your place! It can get pretty busy though, so arrive before or after the weekday lunch rush to make sure you get a good seat.
The interior is very large with seating available on two floors. The large workable in the middle is quite comfortable. There are power outlets at nearly every seat (even in the floor under the large work table). However, the WiFi was extremely slow, so you'll probably need to use a mobile hotspot if you need reliable internet.
